Sunday’s Cookie Walk was a big success, one that reminds us how powerful community can be when people come together with generous hearts.
Thanks to all of the cookie lovers in the Valley, the Cookie Walk sold almost 200 batches of cookies, raising nearly $3,000! We’re deeply grateful to Nancy Milliken, Wendy Smith, Louise Smiley and their amazing team of volunteers for all of their time and effort. Our thanks also goes to St. George’s United Church for providing such a welcoming space.
Sweet Treats, Big Impact!
All proceeds from the Cookie Walk will go towards The Anchorage, L’Arche Comox Valley’s building project to create more affordable homes for people with developmental disabilities in the Valley. The Anchorage will include 16 safe and affordable mini-homes in a village arrangement, centered around a common amenity space for gatherings and activities.
“L’Arche’s work is simple,” says Lynda Brosko, Community Leader & Executive Director for L’Arche Comox Valley. “We invite people to build community together. The Cookie Walk is an incredible example of how generosity can come in many different forms. The Cookie Walk was an exciting event for L’Arche that helped uplift our community and show us how much support there is for us.”
L’Arche is a non-profit that’s been in the Valley for more than 25 years. The organization offers a compassionate, inclusive community where adults with intellectual disabilities can live full lives, contribute meaningfully and develop lasting relationships. People of all abilities are welcome, helping people to discover new friendships and uncover their hidden talents and the things they love.
