A Tradition That Keeps Growing
What began 15 years ago, complete with a pig roasting on a flat spit at Merville Hall, has grown over the years into a sold-out celebration for 185 guests at the Filberg Centre. What’s magical is that the Hootenanny stays true to the spirit of community and fun that has defined it from the beginning.
This year’s event was a wonderful example of what can happen when a community comes together. LUSH Valley and Gunter Brothers provided a delicious food experience, while Boondock got guests out onto the dance floor. But it was the live dessert auction that really brought the energy in the room to a new level, as guests joined in some friendly competition for an array of treats created by professional and home bakers. The auction was not only a highlight of the evening, it brought in half of the event’s fundraising dollars.
A particularly meaningful part of the evening was hearing about L’Arche’s mission, meeting some of the people who are part of the L’Arche community and learning about the future taking shape through The Anchorage project.
The Hootenanny is made possible by a community that is happy to pitch in and have some fun along the way. Thanks to the many people who supported the event especially our volunteers who gave their time and energy with great enthusiasm. A special thank you to our sponsors: Old House Notary, Laughing Oyster Books, CSN Reliable Autobody and Costco, and to everyone who attended, donated, performed, cooked, and helped bring the evening to life.
It was a wonderful night of friendship and celebration, and a harvest well worth celebrating.
