A quilt is a beautiful thing. Every piece of fabric and every stitch represents time, intention, and love. And that’s something the Comox Valley Schoolhouse Quilters’ Guild knows about. Founded in the early 1980s, it all started with a small group of quilters meeting at Airport Elementary School in Comox. It has since grown into a well-established guild with a broad reaching impact.
Community Quilts Program Reaches Farther
“It’s our way of giving comfort to the many important non-profits across the Valley and the people they support,” says Diane Cave, leader for the Community Quilts Program. This year L’Arche Comox Valley received a visit from Guild members and they brought with them beautiful quilts to gift to core members.
The Guild has donated to numerous organizations over the years including Transition Society, The Views, Cumberland Seniors Lodge, Island Health Baby Group, Comox Valley Recovery Centre, Stepping Stones and more.
Learning, Patience, Friends and Laughter
If you like to sew and/or want to learn to quilt, reach out to the Guild. There are numerous workshops and skill-building demos where members share quilting techniques. They have retreats, open houses, craft sales and community events.
