Macrame is a form of art that uses different kinds of knots, beads and other items to make beautiful creations. Macrame looks complicated but Katrina Pennington of Comox Valley’s Sea & Weave made the experience fun and interesting at L’Arche’s I Belong Centre.
“It’s a great experience to try something new,” says Carli Kennedy, L’Arche’s I Belong Centre Coordinator. “A number of people at the workshop had never tried macrame before. The class was a relaxed and easy way to meet new people, try something different and create!”
A Chance to Share Your Gifts
Carli says that L’Arche is always looking for people who have a gift or talent to share. “We love trying different things out,” she says with a smile. “You don’t have to be an expert. Positivity and the willingness to share are the only pre-requisites. We can figure out the rest together.”
It’s the first class that Katrina has taught at L’Arche. “Saturday’s workshop at was so inspiring,” she says. “It was such a beautiful and warm space to teach people of all abilities that were eager to learn this fun art form. Working with others with diverse abilities blew me away; the resourcefulness and focus I saw was incredible. I’m a strong believer that art is for everybody and that we all benefit from creativity. I can’t wait to come back!”
Activities at L’Arche are open to people with and without disabilities.
