Matt Beckett loves Vancouver Island. It’s where he grew up and after 17 years of living in the Comox Valley, he, his wife and their two daughters call the Valley their home.

Matt is part of the Coastwood Private Wealth team in Comox. The team focuses on helping clients and their families achieve their goals and live the life they seek through wise financial management.

Different Backgrounds, a Shared Vision

At first glance, it seems that Coastwood is in the business of finance, but in fact they’re in the business of people.

“We’re very fortunate to work with the clients we do and to have the opportunity to give back to our community,” says Matt with a smile. “We realized recently that the Coastwood partners were supporting different non-profits in different ways, each on our own. We started to discuss how we could improve our community impact if we pooled our efforts. We realized that while we have different backgrounds, we have a shared vision about supporting community.”

Coastwood Cares was launched to help identify needs in the Valley and shine a light on them for Coastwood’s clients, colleagues and other community members. Each year the partners make their own personal, financial contribution and encourage their clients to do the same.

In October, L’Arche Comox Valley kicked-off its campaign to raise funds for The Anchorage – 15 suites of affordable and safe housing for adults with diverse abilities, an additional suite for a “Good Friend and Neighbour,” and a common amenity space. Coastwood Cares helped kick things off with a $5,000 donation and a call for others to donate as well.

The Right Thing, the Right Time

Matt has been supporting the community for many years so you may know him as a Rotarian, the past president of the Comox Valley Community Foundation or for his work as an organizer of the Comox Valley Charity Golf Classic.

Matt knew L’Arche Comox Valley from its last capital campaign to build the I Belong Centre in 2014. “It’s a busy life,” says Matt, “but knowing the benefits that The Anchorage will bring to the community, I’m excited to be a part of it. There’s such a critical need for housing, especially for people with developmental disabilities. It’s the right thing at the right time.”
