Fired Up About Fire Preparedness

Fire won’t wait. Plan your escape.

The Courtenay Fire Department visited L’Arche Comox Valley this week to do its annual fire inspection. Their visit included a fire drill and training on the use of fire extinguishers for all core members and employees.

“It was very valuable for everyone to participate today and get a refresher on how to use an extinguisher,” says Lana Schilniuc, Assistants Coordinator for L’Arche Comox Valley.

The Courtenay Fire Department visits L’Arche Comox Valley once a year to check the fire system, remind everyone what to do in case of fire and carry out a timed fire drill. L’Arche also does its own fire drill with residents and employees.

Fire department staff reinforced the importance of not only having a plan but practicing it and what to do if you encounter smoke or a fire.

Plan your escape.

Be sure that you are prepared in case of fire where you work and live. If you have family members or roommates, be sure that you practice with them.

What if someone in my home has a disability?
