Sharing Side by Side is a place for seniors to share memories that capture joys, achievements and lives well lived. Memories are recorded in books, audio, artwork, collage, poetry or a short movie.
The pairing of participants with volunteers and larger group activities build friendships and Community through social connectedness and for some, reduces loneliness and social isolation. Why is this important? New research in Canada is showing that our elderly population is growing increasingly lonely and isolated. As well, research in the United Kingdom shows that loneliness and social isolation is harmful to our health.
L’Arche Comox Valley is a community of people with and without developmental disabilities sharing life together and celebrating the unique value of each person.
